History

Founded in 1925 by Don Tomas Mapúa, an architecture graduate of Cornell University, Mapúa University is the Philippines’ premier engineering and technological school. It is globally recognized, ranking in the Top 501-550 in the 2021 QS Asia University Rankings. Mapúa offers excellence in various fields, including engineering, sciences, architecture, design, information technology, communication, media studies, social sciences, education, accountancy, and business management.

Mapúa's undergraduate programs have received recognition from local and international accreditation bodies. It is the first school in Southeast Asia accredited by ABET, offering 11 engineering programs and 3 computing programs accredited by ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission and Computing Accreditation Commission, respectively. The University has also been named a Center of Excellence by the Philippines' Commission on Higher Education in several engineering and information technology programs.

Championing sustainability and innovation, Mapúa holds ISO certifications for environmental and quality management systems. It utilizes cutting-edge technology, such as the Cardinal EDGE platform, which facilitates real-time video conferencing for virtual classrooms and provides digital solutions like Digital Day and Digital Rush for enhanced learning experiences.

Mapúa ÚOx offers asynchronous fully online graduate and undergraduate programs, empowering students to learn at their own pace and space. The University is dedicated to producing high-caliber graduates, evident through its 379 board topnotchers across various licensure examinations. International exposure and research initiatives further equip students to become future enablers of solutions to industry and community challenges.
